Panel discussion at the FIFDH: Switzerland’s responsibility in commodity trading

On the 12th of March, the SHRI will be present at the 23rd edition of the Geneva International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights (FIFDH). It will be moderating a panel discussion on Switzerland's responsibilities in the raw materials trade – particularly in the light of the new popular initiative on corporate responsibility.

While Switzerland plays a significant role in the raw materials trade, the domestic regulation of human rights and the environment in this sector is only rudimentary. In the context of an evolving European and global regulatory landscape on the matter, Switzerland is coming under the global spotlight. In response (and for the second time), Swiss civil society has recently launched a popular initiative calling for constitutional reform on corporate responsibility. Together with experts from national human rights institutions, civil society, and the extractive sector, we will explore the responsibilities of Switzerland and Swiss companies, and the role the Swiss Human Rights Institution could play in this area.

The names of the panellists will be announced in the next few days.
